We are currently seeking a Contracts & Procurement Superintendent to join our team. permanent full-time position at our Simberi Operation. Your work location is Papua New Guinea, working a 21/14 Roster from Kavieng/Rabaul/Port Moresby/Lae/Mt Hagen/Buka/Madang/Goroka/Alotau/Wapenamanda/Popondetta/ Hoskins/ Vanimo/ Wewak or Tabar group of Islands. (Locals are encouraged to apply).

Reporting to the Manager Commercial.  

To lead the site-based sourcing and procurement function for Simberi operation by delivering sustainable value to the operations through developing strong stakeholder and local and site-specific supplier relationships, providing guidance for procurement compliance.

The opportunity

   Role accountabilities

  • Measuring and managing key contract performance ensuring consistency with expectations while mitigating risk of underperformance for Simberi.
  • Promote the building and maintenance ERP catalogue content to encourage self-sourcing by requisitioners, maximise purchasing power, and to support cost control.
  • Maintaining a sustainable approach to contract management and supplier relationship management (SRM) for strategic site related contracts by measuring and ensuring agreements relating to price, quality of service and delivery guidelines are honoured, mitigating risk of underperformance.
  • Initiating, leading, and driving outcomes for procurement projects, using should cost modelling and fact-based negotiations to deliver the best Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) outcomes while mitigating risk in line with Procurement processes.
  • Supporting the capital project requirements ensuring early stakeholder engagement and involvement in the capital budgeting process for Simberi.
  • Supporting the preparation of Procurement related performance and activity reports, ensuring accuracy of information and data.

Business Support

  • Providing trusted and fact-based commercial expertise to the business while adhering to and promoting adherence to Procurement Governance and best practice standards, policies and processes.
  • Establishing and maintaining best practice operational processes and procedures for the Simberi Procurement function and ensuring that the site is compliant with St Barbara’s procurement policies.
  • Ensuring best practice Procurement governance is in line with Company objectives, addressing non-compliance trends by leading internal stakeholders through strategic sourcing processes.

Safety, Environment & Community

  • Ensuring and monitoring safety in the workplace by identifying and addressing hazards, participating in improving safety and ensuring all reporting requirements are completed.
  • Partnering with internal stakeholders with a focus on developing a rich understanding of the Simberi operations and local market options while keeping abreast of regulatory requirements and changes.
  • Comply with Company objectives, policies, procedures, safe work practices, relevant Acts and Regulations.
  • Maintain company equipment to a safe standard.
  • Actively participate to improve and sustain a positive safety culture across the organisation.
  • Demonstrate commitment to safety within the team by complying personally and fully understanding all safety rules and regulations applicable to area of work.
  • Report on accidents and incidents and contribute to investigations where required.

 People

  • Driving a continuous improvement culture to remove non-value add activity with the team and effectively implement functional excellence.
  • Supporting the provision of coaching and education across the Simberi Operations to achieve best commercial practice within the Company’s governance framework, by delivering commercial training.
  • Supporting site procurement teams to seek sound competitive options or alternatives for meeting site requirements where options may seem limited/exhausted, ensuring compliance with the Procurement Policy.
  • Communicate with a range of people at different levels throughout the organisation to ensure effectiveness and efficiency of tasks being undertaken.
  • Establish and maintain effective lines of communication within the organisation.
  • Act to promote a friendly climate, good morale and co-operation within the team.
  • Communicate to your supervisor immediately if emerging information about your works may impact the schedule.

  • Work closely and collaborate with other SBM personnel within the immediate team and across the business.

Essential

  • Behaviour consistent with St Barbara’s Values
  • A relevant qualification in logistics and procurement
  • Ability to produce a National Police Clearance (valid within the last 3 months) for site access purposes
  • Current unencumbered ‘C’ Class Driver’s Licence
  • Strong relevant end to end procurement experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully executing procurement plans, driving outcomes for operational sites and corporate objectives
  • Strong interpersonal, influencing and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to develop and maintain productive working relationships with site personnel, suppliers and customers.
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple competing priorities and reconciling these with the longer-term procurement objectives
  • Demonstrated capability in leading a small team, organising work of others, setting priorities and exercising sound independent judgement
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills

 Desirable

  • Diploma of Leadership & Management.
  • Experience within the mining or resources sector
  • Strong track record in business improvement
  • Change management experience
